Our Appointed District Shop holiday events are right around the corner! Local to the area and looking for some festive fun this December? We've put together a few hands-on events that highlight local makers and artisans. Better yet, each experience comes with a handmade item (made by you!) that you'll be able to take home.

Reservations are filling up fast, so make sure to book your spot soon—we'll see you there.

Saturday, December 11, 11A-12:30P

Join us for a print-making demo and conversation with Jesse Kirsch of No Plan Press, a Washington-area printmaker specializing in geometry, color, and bold typography. Learn a little more about Jesse's background in printing and design, our collaboration prints designed exclusively for the Appointed District Shop, and take away a DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA wood type print of your own making.

Jesse Kirsch is an award-winning graphic designer, art director, and owner of No Plan Press, a boutique letterpress and design studio in Takoma Park, MD. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City, he has been working professionally in the arts for over 20 years. Jesse enjoys finding new methods of using geometry, color, and typography, often in a way that explores everyday subjects from a different perspective. Inspired by the juxtaposition of new and old technologies, his work combines the latest in modern design software with century-old vintage printing equipment.

Sweet Tooth? You'll want to swing by our first ever mini cake decorating class with Sweets by Caroline. We'll provide everything you need for a beautifully-decorated cake—chocolate drizzle, sprinkles and candies, meringues and french macarons, and a turntable with various piping bags (plus, a delicious 4" cake).

Specializing in cake and French macarons, Caroline draws inspiration from her childhood, friends, and travels to create delicious works of art. She is also a solo AAPI women business owner with "an entrepreneurial spirit [that] drives me to dream big and continue to create and share my desserts with the people around me, one macaron at a time!"

For this event with local candlemaker Handmade Habitat, you'll customize a candle with your own unique note and give a gift that keeps on giving. Choose from four natural scents, and add a gift message right on the candle via a vintage-typewriter note. Whether a quote, a sentiment, or an inside joke, this is a perfectly unique gift for your favorite candle lover.

Handmade Habitat is an all natural soy wax candle and beauty goods company for slow, mindful living. Their work is consciously hand crafted in the District of Columbia to be healthy for the body, home, and Mother Earth.
