Things To Do This Weekend in Ivy City, D.C.
Looking for something to do in D.C. this weekend? If you’ve had your fill of museums and walks on the waterfront, take a page out of our book and explore northeast D.C.'s best kept secret—Ivy City. This historic neighborhood has grown to include small businesses, award-winning restaurants, and more, and has been home to our design and production studio since 2016. Read on for our top recommendations for a perfect day in Ivy City, including a peaceful nature walk, delicious food and drinks, and shopping with your favorite local paper brand (hint, hint—that’s us).
Stop One: The National Arboretum
446 acres of beautiful gardens, exhibits, and rare trees make this stunning property a spot you could spend the whole day. Don’t miss the impressive bonsai exhibit and the breathtaking Capitol columns, original to the 1800s Capitol Building. Start your day with clean, fresh air and endless bike and walking paths to kick off your day.
Stop Two: Baker’s Daughter
Hop in the car (or grab a Capital Bikeshare right outside the arboretum) and head to Ivy City proper for coffee and a light lunch after your stroll. Baker’s Daughter specializes in pastries, sandwiches, gourmet grocery items, and ever-changing monthly specials, but it's also a perfect stop for a mid-morning cold brew and quick lunch. Street and garage parking is available, so find a spot to settle in for the day—you’ll be on foot from here on out.
P.S. Kids in tow? Check out The Lane's "Drop Off Play" program, offering a few hours of supervised structured activities and free play for little ones so parents can get away for a few hours. Located right in the heart of Ivy City.

Enjoy an iced coffee after a stroll through the wildflowers.
Stop Three: Appointed District Shop
Make your way to the Appointed District Shop (now open Saturdays!) and build your dream notebook at The Notebook Bar™. This first of its kind customizing experience draws you into the production process, with special details only available in-store. We’ll build it for you (and even add a custom monogram) at our adjacent production studio. While you wait, explore not only our collection, but test out Appointed-approved writing tools to find your perfect pen, curated gifts, and store-exclusive desktop accessories.
Stop Four: Kick Axe Throwing
Ready to let loose? Kick Axe Throwing is an expansive shared space with Throw Social. The decor at Kick Axe resembles a kitschy log cabin, while Throw Social leans into a more tropical, feminine vibe. Kick back with multiple bars and activities, including axe throwing, corn hole, and more.

Create your dream notebook at Appointed's Notebook Bar™ and enjoy a refreshing drink at Other Half.
Stop Five: Other Half Brewery
A happy-hour favorite of the Appointed Team, Other Half brews some of the best IPA’s in Washington D.C. Not an IPA fan? You’ll find plenty of classic beer styles on their expansive list. Covered outdoor picnic tables, an indoor space with huge garage doors, and a chic rooftop deck means you can always find a seat. Check their social media to see which food truck might be on-site, and get ready to settle in for an afternoon of beer and conversation with friends.
Appointed has been in Ivy City since a year after we opened, and we feel so lucky to be a part of this vibrant northeast D.C. community. We hope you stop by for a visit to enjoy this hidden gem of a neighborhood. We’ll see you soon!
